A glorious step back in time to the Jazz Age at the exquisite Glen Foerd Estate in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Guests traveled from near and far, by car and conveniently by public transportation, for this inaugural event, dressed up in the fashions of the 20s and 30s, picnicking in the shade of the trees or on the banks of the Delaware River, and enjoyed the sights and sounds of the bands and performers. Everyone could compete for the prizes for best-dressed lady and gentleman!
Guests could pre-order food in advance, or purchase meals, snacks and refreshments throughout the afternoon, or bring their own picnic baskets (sans alcohol). A pie-baking contest garnered a number of entrants. Games of croquet and badminton could be enjoyed by everyone, Glen Foerd Mansion was open for touring, and a display of vintage cars and bicycles added further interest, along with the vendor stalls.
MC extraordinaire Dandy Wellington kept the entertainment flowing - guests loved the performances by the famous Minsky Sisters, and by the Old City Sweethearts, and young and old took to the dance floor to enjoy the three bands: The Red Hot Ramblers, the Gin Canaries, and Drew Nugent & the Midnight Society.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Glen Foerd Conservation Corporation, a non-profit responsible for managing and operating the estate.
