This year, the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function held its Music Has Power Awards to honor and celebrate the achievements of Tom Calderone, President of VH1, VH1 Classic, Palladia.
The fundraising celebration, held at Feinstein's at Loews Regency, was very well-attended. Dr. Concetta Tomaino introduced AARP's video clip "My Generation and Music for the Soul" and commented on the Institute's recent work and plans. It was extremely interesting to see the almost-miraculous effect of music (especially singing songs from their youth) on victims of Alzheimer's.
And then it was time for the entertainment - Michael Feinstein and special guest, the incomparable Marilyn Maye. Singularly and together, they entertained us with a wonderful selection of songs, very ably backed by musicians Tedd Firth (piano), Tom Hubbard (bass), Ken Peplowski (reeds), Glenn Drewes (horn), and Albie Berk (drums).
A wonderful night, made even more special with the knowledge that, because of it, more people will be helped by the magic of music.
